100 Years Ago…
Horace Rhodes Kenworthy began his career as a gear cutter at the Ford factory in Dagenham, England. In 1918, he was invited to manage the gear-cutting workshop at Ford’s newly opened plant in Cork. Embracing the challenge, Horace soon recognised that the Irish economy was less developed than its UK counterpart. Motivated by this, Horace saved diligently and made the bold decision to start his own venture. In 1922, Reliance was founded as a sole trader business, selling engineering components to Industry from the back of a Model-T truck. Just three years later, in 1925, Reliance was formally established as a company.
